In the bloggin’ world, this is called Linkbait, the act of linking up multiple blogs with your own. There’s a great blog “rolling” now that chronicles the adventures of the Maniax RV and her crew, cool pictures and posts here. In case you missed it, there’s also a blog for the Heatwave, with the All-Tournament team, game recaps, and the Braveheart video. All in a days’ work
And we’re off! Well, hampered by rain we are at least! We’re loading up the Maniax Mobile and preparing for the ride of a lifetime. 11-hours of high intensity road racing to get to the BWI Airport and pick up 6 12-passenger vans. Anyone desiring to manage a club of this magnitude had better get used to arriving early in the am to secure your vans!
From there it’s off to the airport in PHL for solo pick-ups and off to the Inn at Chester Springs, our first hotel location on the tour. 95 girls will be playing in the IWLCA’s All-American Showcase and the Lax Maniax are the only club south of Virginia to feature two teams in the prestigious ‘Champions Cup’. What could be more fitting for the club which was named Southeastern Champions just three weeks ago?
The teams are tested and battle-hardened. The coaches have all been there before and done that. Now it is time to make the trip. Last year’s 2008 team which placed more than a dozen girls in college finished with a 2-2 record, falling to tournament champion Lady Roc of New York in a slow starting first-game. The team rebounded to defeat both the X-Team and Lenape Premier in the tournament finale.
This year there are two 2009 teams participating in the tournament. The goal is not to win the event, but to play the best lacrosse possible and attract the attention of college coaches. 275 colleges will be scouring the sidelines on Saturday at the USTC tournament. Very few will venture to the other tournament fields until Sunday as Saturday is the ‘big day’ and ‘last chance’ for the MAJOR DI programs to complete their 2009 recruiting class. Smaller schools may stay on Sunday to continue their 2009 recruiting journey which will last into April of 2009 for them.
That is why it is worth it to all of our 2009’s to make the trip. Quite simply, they will have a chance to play against the best, at the highest level for high school players. The 09 National Team is in the Premier group, playing against X Team Risk, Mass Elite, and LI Black Magic. 09 Elite will play in the Select group against USTC House, Morris Select, and Ellicot City.
Both teams have prepared well and trained extremely hard to be at this tournament, and are looking to the rewards of that labor! The games begin Friday night at 5:00 pm, stay tuned to the blog for all the news!
