She led the stats with goals (21) and assists (13) in the four games we kept stats for.” In the championship finals game, Taylor contributed to 11 of the Championship team’s 12 goals with 6 goals and 5 assists. Way to go Taylor!
Coach of the Tournament:
Brooke Richards Magnuson (Maryland 2006): She helped EVERY team get better and installed some fun, cool plays that will become fast hallmarks of our program this year! She is 5’9”…she was a 4-year starter and Captain for Maryland…she has the best spirit of any coach every in the history of ever-ness…she has a heckuva left and right hand…she’s a great role model for ALL club members to follow.
All of our coaches were all-stars this weekend!!! They were AWESOME!!!!!!
Maniax Spirit of the Tournament:
Jessica Parker – Pink (Broward Elite), University HS
A GK with great heart, positive energy and vocal enthusiasm. This young lady impressed everyone with her attitude, and hype. She gets her team ready to play and is a strong symbol of what the best of Florida lacrosse is all about. She is also a two-time member of the US Lacrosse southeastern team that heads north this weekend. WAY TO GO JESS!!! YEAH!!!! You embody what everyone should be like on game day!
Way to go Girls!!!!! You continue to DEFINE what a great lacrosse program should be all about! You play in the TOUGHEST bracket against teams that KNOW how to play lacrosse and you respond by raising your level of play!
I wanted to update everyone on the happenings of this past weekend. The A-T-L trip was a resounding success. Here are the results:
U-19 Division ‘A’ Bracket:
Our THREE teams were 5-2 against other ELITE club programs. The Maniax PINK team won the Southeastern U-19 Championship with a 5-0 record. They defeated Team Dixie, known as Georgia/Tennessee’s best club program, twice in one day to win the title. Team Dixie is an outstanding team that is selected from more than 500 ATL area players (45 high schools) and represents the best of the best in Georgia. They are very aggressive and athletic and have a few years of national travel and elite experience. Over the past two years, the Dixie Chix have become an exceptional club and one we are fortunate to compete against on such a high level in the south!
The Maniax PINK team was made up of ‘National Team’ players from all over the state. The roster included:
2010 Emily Berge (Palm Beach)
2010 Lizard Blackwell (Lee-Collier)
2010 Chanelle Coulon (Broward)
2010 Amanda Graziano (Central Combined)
2010 Kaylee Hoover (Central Combined)
2011 AB Jager (Central Combined)
2011 Eleyse Johnson (Central Combined)
2009 Rachael Krell (Central Combined)
2010 Kristin Literal (Central Combined)
2011 Taylor McCord (Riverside)
2009 Jessica Parker (Broward)
2011 Chelsea Pinneke (Central Combined)
2009 Caitlyn Ryan (Broward)
2009 Jess Seward (Riverside)
2011 Karley White (Central Combined)
Head Coach: Stacey Williams (Ohio State) (Central Combined)
Assistant Coach: Brooke Magnuson (Maryland) (Oceanside)
Assistant Coach: John Darley (Oviedo) (Seminole)
The team finished 5-0 and was a reflection of what makes the Maniax system GREAT! The girls EXECUTED their skill sets and communication patterns together with SPEED and SMARTS. They did not get tired and they had a GREAT TIME. They outscored all opponents by an average score of 13-4, but faced tough competition at times from every team they faced which helped them to hone their skills! Congrats to these girls! Coach Stacey played her girls all over the field – attack, mid, defense – and the players just plugged right in and executed. Great stick skills, on the money passing, amazing goals and dodges and tons of movement on attack made this team the ‘team to watch’ at the tournament. Amazing job.
The Maniax White team was made up of ‘Elite’ team members from throughout the state who were 2009 or 2010 graduation class. This team play a great tournament and had opportunities to win each game they played with exception to one (their first game). Their best game came against Trident, an elite club from Atlanta. After an evenly paced first 15 minutes, they went on a 6 goal run and pulled away – winning the game 10-8. It was a close game that required the girls to be smart at the end and possess the ball. The head coach of this team, John Darley (Seminole), thought the event was a great learning experience for the girls. Their overall record was 2-2, with their only losses coming to the finalists. Their game with the Dixie Chix was tied at half-time and with a little more confidence could have gone our way! The NINE 2010’s and SIX 2009’s were combined from:
4 Seminole Elite
4 Riverside Elite
4 Orange Elite
2 Broward Elite
1 Palm Beach Elite
1 Lee-Collier Elite
The Maniax Black team was made up of ‘Elite’ team members from throughout the state who were 2011 graduation class AND two goalkeepers who were both 2010 graduation class. It was the youngest team of ANY high school elite team in either the ‘A’ or the ‘B’ bracket. This team played some AMAZING lacrosse. Their half time score against the PINK team was just 1-4, and they played the Dixie Elite and the White teams VERY evenly throughout. Their passing and transition skills were very good. On attack they executed well and had some timely goals from both sides of the cage. Being a younger team, they were not quite ready for the ‘elite’ level of defense needed to hang with the older, more skilled attacking teams. It is something that takes time in the club to develop and this is something that we are emphasizing at local practices over the next two weeks AND at the next tournament. This team was very talented, full of potential. Coach Brooke thought that her team had great energy and was learning at a quick rate – it’s just a matter of dedicated time before these girls are amazing = they are on their way!
Again – you have to BELIEVE it FIRST in order for it to happen. Ladies: Sharpen your Axes!!!
U-15 Bracket:
An amazing event for these girls. Both teams combined to play 8 games in just 2 days (imagine how much lacrosse these young ladies learned in such a short amount of time!). Both teams played extremely well. Other than the U-19 Maniax PINK team, these two teams each PASSED the ball up the field the best in terms of SEEING their OPTIONS (UP-ANGLE-CARRY-still working on the Back part). It was GREAT to see them play a different brand of lacrosse than every other U-15 team at the event. The ball movement was awesome. Lots of assisted goals and some great plays in the midfield. We also easily led the event in ‘3-second’ calls FOR our defense (great body position). The 2008 Southeastern U-15 Champions are the LAXMANIAX!
I was also pleased with how well the girls got along and enjoyed each other’s company. It’s not easy being a ‘new player’ and seeing 44 other girls like you that you don’t know so well. Our girls make it seem like ‘this is just how we do it!’.
The U-15 Lax Maniax BLACK team was made up of 2012+2013’s:
Jessie Alwinson (Seminole)
Amanda Amerson (Orange)
Maddy Blakeman (Vero Beach)
Chloe Cabigas (Orange)
Julie Castner (Seminole)
Jackie Cervasio (Orange)
Melissa Coggins (North Florida)
Kris Coppolino (Orange)
Suzanne Holman (Orange)
Francesca Hasapes (Seminole)
Ally Icardi (Orange)
Rachel Keely (Seminole)
Gina Lambiase (North Florida)
Anna Lanpher (Orange)
Lauren Loria (Orange)
Caitlin McCall (Orange)
Brennah Mehan (Seminole)
Elaine Saso (Seminole)
Kelly Whyard (North Florida)
Ally Williams (Orange)
Chelsea Worrell (Orange)
Head Coach: Mindy McCord (Jacksonville University) (Riverside Elite & Statewide Middle School Coordinator)
Assistant Coach: Brad Pinneke (Seminole Elite, and Head Coach of the U-15 PINKIES!)
This team represented 5 different youth organizations and three regions of the state. They played very well in transition on both attack and defense. Three of their four games were tightly contested, including their game against our own AWESOME PINKIES!!!
U-15 PINKIES: You guys are AWESOME. I love watching you play the game and I hope you are thrilled to play it. All of you are amazing and if you play with your friends and practice what you learn from the Maniax coaches, you will become superstars! Remember to be helpful to your parents as they spend as much time on your lacrosse game as you do! Tell a friend to pick up the stick and continue Florida’s LACROSSE REVOLUTION!
